Jeanne de Alcuaz

Redwood City, CA

(650) 483-8518

Jeanne de Alcuaz is a practicing psychotherapist originally trained in Psychodynamic theory, who is skilled in Cognitive-Behavioral, Dialectical-Behavioral and Acceptance and Commitment Therapies and Attachment Theory. A graduate of UC Berkeley (B.A., M.S.W.), she has over 25 years experience in the field. In her practice, Jeanne works with depression, generalized anxiety, trauma history, grief and life transitions. She also specializes in shifting maladaptive relational patterns, namely, habits of perception, experience, and behavior that inhibit one’s satisfying relationships with others, as well as with oneself. Schema therapy has greatly enriched her work with clients as it enables a more precise naming of ingrained beliefs and powerful transient emotional states. Schema Therapy’s methods help heal injuries from the past, while providing a deeper knowledge and acceptance of one’s varied and vital self. Jeanne welcomes your inquiries.

What was it like in your family growing up? How were emotions handled? How are your relationships now? Like many, if not most people, you probably wish it could be different in at least some crucial ways. It’s very puzzling that even the most well intentioned and loving family members or partners just don’t behave in the ways we need. And, often, somehow, no matter how hard we sincerely try, what we do and feel, just doesn’t bring the response we want. Often, we don’t even know exactly why things got so painful and unhappy. What I can offer is a balance of listening and offering tools for you to develop the relationships and effective and satisfying daily life you are wanting. One method that I use is Schema therapy for discovering and transforming deeply held beliefs and patterns of behavior. I also include Gottman and EFT couples methods. The Interpersonal Neurobiology concepts of Dr. Daniel Siegel also inform my sessions. Additionally, I practice Hakomi experiential and mindful therapy principles such as supporting your organic inner wisdom toward healing. Call for free initial consultation.

I have over 20 years of experience as a professional psychologist. I received my Ph.D. from Stony Brook University in 1992. I worked for over a decade as a professor in a Psychology Ph.D. program. During this time, I published dozens of research articles and presented at national and international forums. In 2009, I moved to the Bay area and shortly thereafter, opened my clinical practice. I see individual adults, teens, and couples. My areas of specialty are trauma, stress & life transition, anxiety disorders, depression, relationship issues, partners and children of narcissists. I also treat mind-body problems like chronic pain and illness, addictions, and disordered eating. My approach is integrative and may include mindfulness, Schema Therapy, EFT, and EMDR for trauma. Schema therapy informs my approach to clients stuck in negative self-views and dysfunctional relationship cycles. I have attended trainings in Schema Therapy, EFT, and EMDR. I am the author of “The Stress-Proof Brain” (New Harbinger, 2017) and an expert blogger for Psychology Today.

I have been providing counseling for the last 20 years and my training continues to progress. I am currently working towards certification as a Schema Therapist. My areas of specialty include treating trauma, depression and anxiety in teens and adults. In addition to working from a schema orientation, I am also trained in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Exposure Therapy and psychodynamic theories. My work experience includes providing brief individual and group counseling in inpatient psychiatric facilities to both adults and children and long- term psychotherapy in outpatient programs. I have been employed as a therapist at Kaiser Permanente in San Francisco for the last 8 years and have been counseling clients in private practice since 2011.

District of Columbia (Washington DC)

Paul DelGrosso

Washington, DC and Bethesda, MD

(202) 807-5450

Paul is a clinical social worker with extensive experience providing psychotherapy to adults, adolescents, families and groups. Paul was drawn to Schema Therapy after specializing for several years in PTSD and other forms of trauma. Paul discovered in his work that a significant proportion of clients did not respond fully to traditional therapies for trauma. He noticed that many of these clients experienced insecure attachments to caregivers during childhood, leading to the development of problematic schemas and self-defeating life patterns, which exacerbated subsequent trauma reactions. These observations led Paul to Schema Therapy as an effective way to identify and resolve unmet childhood needs—and more effectively resolve trauma and other hard-to-treat conditions. Paul completed advanced certification training in Schema Therapy at the NJ Institute for Schema Therapy and is an Advanced Certified Schema Therapist. Paul is also trained in Cognitive-Behavior Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE), and Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Bowen Family Systems Therapy.

Lawrence P. Riso

Reston, VA

(703) 203-7197

Licensed Clinical Psychologist practicing over 20 years. Expert therapist in the treatment of depression, anxiety disorders and marital/couples problems. Practitioner-scholar with over 50 published journal articles and book chapters on psychotherapy and psychological disorders. Several certifications including “Cognitive Therapy,” standard level “Schema Therapy,” and advanced level “Schema Therapy for Couples.” As a Professor of Clinical Psychology at the American School of Professional Psychology/Argosy University, Washington DC, I have trained numerous psychotherapists. Establishing a collaborative working relationship and deep emotional with my clients are critical aspects of my work. Clients are active participants and decision makers in their treatment.

I bring a creative and no-nonsense problem-solving approach to therapy. This comes from a diverse work experience as a mental health practitioner, aerospace engineer, and independent professional artist. I am trained in Schema Therapy and currently working on advanced certification. My main areas of focus are anxiety, depression, and anger.

I don’t just sit, listen and nod. We talk. I actively engage you in the therapeutic process to help you make the real, permanent changes you want in your life. I won’t encourage you to merely “think positive.” Most of us have already tried that and it usually leaves us frustrated and more discouraged. Figuring out why you are the way you are can be interesting and even enlightening, but it’s worthless if you’re still experiencing the same emotional pain. I work with you to make changes in your life that you want to make. Things don’t have to stay the same.

Client Testimonial: “The whole experience was really enlightening and different from anything I had done before. I found any other therapy I had quite painful, tiring and never ending. You made me feel much better and happier about myself. You also made things feel achievable and within reach. It all seemed much clearer. Initially it just made me feel better when I was here but very quickly I could see and feel progress creeping into my life. Now I can see with hindsight how much it has changed my life.” Erika.
